QU gets 220 new faculty members from 40 countriesDoha, Qatar: A total of 220 new faculty members from 40 countries have joined Qatar University this year, bringing the staff strength to 1,130 in different faculties and departments, a senior official has revealed.


Professor Sheikha Abdullah Al Misnad, President of Qatar University , was speaking at the university’s orientation programme for new faculty. At the event, titled ‘Ya hala’, the new staff was congratulated on joining the university and wished a prosperous career.


“Ya hala to Qatar University . Ya hala in our Arab culture is the best welcome one can wish a new colleague,” she said. “The first few days at any new job can be challenging. There will be forms to fill out, new places to explore, new people to meet and lots of new information to take in. We want to ensure this experience is as efficient and pleasant as possible,”


As part of the orientation programme, the new staff members will attend a number of workshops to learn about the university’s organisational structure, rules and administrative processes.


Dr Mazen Hasna, vice president and chief academic officer, said there had been an increase in the number of students enrolling at the university this year, especially in graduate programmes. He said that the university had registered 370 graduate students this year.
